Blankenheim
Holiday
Resort in the Eifel Hills
Between the ancient Roman towns of Cologne, Aachen and Trier lies
Blankenheim, nestling in the German-Belgian nature park in the heart of the Eifel Hills.
The Eifel which is one of the most beautiful parts of the German "Mittelgebirge"
or Hercynian range, with its deep blue maars or crater lakes and its extensive wooded
slopes, is steadily improving its already excellent reputation as a holiday area.
In
the centre of Blankenheim under a beautiful old halftimbered building is the source of the
river Ahr.
Four
babbling brooks no wider than your arm flow together here to form a river which, like very
few others in Germany, is associated from source to confluence with wine and the joys of
life.
True
recovery from the strains and stresses of everyday life often comes at a time when certain
activities also begin to evolve during the loveliest weeks of the year.
In
this respect Blankenheim and its surroundings have a great deal to offer:
More
than 400 km of footpaths lead through truly endless forests and meadows. Indeed many of
them are regarded as a kind of "secret tip" for those, who, with their friends,
can be entirely on their own - if they so wish.
Wherever
you go, children are always welcome. Especially youngsters from the towns will find no end
of things at which to gaze in wonder. After all, many of the children who come to
Blankenheim will be getting their first really close-up view of live horses and cows, deer
and birds of prey.
Swimming
in open-air pools, surfing on the Freilinger Lake or riding along numerous riding paths
and tennis on one of the courts specially provided for visitors: something for everybody.
Golden
yellow gorse vies with the deep green of the woods and the azure skies: nature from its
most beautiful side.
On a
summer's day the shore of the Freilinger Lake is an inviting place for a picnic. And
there's also a real eldorado for camping enthusiasts: the prize-winning camping site.
